From today, pharmacy students and graduates have a new way of finding out about becoming a registered pharmacist.
The three minute video, which was launched today by the Pharmacy Board of Australia, outlines the steps graduates need to take to gain provisional registration and complete an internship to be eligible to apply for general registration.
Board Chair William Kelly said the video is a quick and easy way for graduates and students close to finishing their studies to find out what they need to do before applying for provisional registration and starting their supervised practice.
‘Finishing studies is the first big step towards being a pharmacist,' Mr Kelly said.
‘The next step is to understand the registration standards that need to be met and the supervised practice arrangements that must be in place and approved before they can start practising.'
Once a graduate gains provisional registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia, as an intern, he/she will then join the ranks of Australia's more than 29,000 registered pharmacists.
In addition to outlining the standards graduates must meet to become registered, the video also includes information about the ongoing obligations for pharmacists.
The Board also released a PowerPoint today, ‘Provisional registration for internship - Requirements and responsibilities'. It explains in further detail the information touched on in the video.
‘All graduates must complete a period of supervised practice to be eligible to apply for general registration so it's important that they understand what steps need to be taken when applying for provisional registration,' Mr Kelly said.
