Have your say on draft guidelines on safe provision of pharmacy services

18 Aug 2025

Public consultation has opened on Pharmacy Board of Australia’s draft Guidelines for pharmacists on the safe provision of pharmacy services including medicines and advice (the draft guidelines).

The draft guidelines review, refine and consolidate the following four existing guidelines into one document:

  • Guidelines for dispensing of medicines
  • Guidelines on practice-specific issues
  • Guidelines for proprietor pharmacists
  • Guidelines on dose administration aids and staged supply of dispensed medicines.

As part of its review, the Board proposes to retire a range of guidelines, while updating and revising the remaining guidelines so they are more contemporary, relevant and outcomes focused.

The Board welcomes submissions on the guidelines from all interested parties, including members of the public, the profession and stakeholders. The consultation pack includes a fact sheet about what is expected of pharmacists when providing medicines and advice, which is intended to support members of the public to engage in the consultation.

How you can have your say

Consultation is open until 13 October 2025. The consultation pack is on the Board’s website under Current consultations.

You can provide feedback by close of business on 13 October 2025 by one of two ways:

  1. submitting your answers to the questions via an online survey, or
  2. using the response template and sending it as a Word document (not PDF) by email to [email protected]

Read the consultation papers and current guidelines on the Current consultations page.
