Under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law as in force in each state and territory (the National Law), students enrolled in an approved program of study leading to registration as a pharmacist must be registered.
If you are enrolled in an approved program of study you do not need to apply for registration. Education providers will pass on your details to the Board for registration. No fees are required.
If you are not enrolled in an approved program of study, but you are intending to undertake a clinical placement in a health profession where you do not hold registration in that profession, the education provider (or the person or organisation providing the clinical placement in a health profession) is required to advise AHPRA of students who need to be registered. Pharmacy students are encouraged to learn more about the regulatory requirements for the pharmacy profession and what it means to be registered as a pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
The Board has produced a PowerPoint – Pharmacist registration: What you need to know – to help students understand what is involved in the transition from study to a career as a pharmacist and why they must be registered.
Graduates of an approved program of study are required to complete a period of supervised practice (internship) to be eligible for general registration.
